Fostering the sacred in a busy life.

with Pastor Erik Swanson
and Shaila Catherine

How can we nurture a sacred and contemplative experience of our lives in the midst of the pressures and demands that are characteristic of Silicon Valley? This evening program will include mindfulness meditation and discussion with two local spiritual leaders who are deeply committed to a contemplative path.

Erik Swanson is the pastor of Westhope Presbyterian Church, home of the Contemplative Center of Silicon Valley. He received his Masters of Divinity in 1998, earned an additional degree in Spiritual Direction, and spent a year in the ecumenical TAIZE monastery in France. Erik’s teaching is dedicated to the art of spiritual formation and bringing an awareness of the Holy into all parts of life.

Shaila Catherine is the founder of Insight Meditation South Bay, and also Bodhi Courses (bodhicourses.org), an online Buddhist classroom. She authored two highly acclaimed books on concentration and insight meditation—Focused and Fearless, and Wisdom Wide and Deep.

Everyone is welcome. Chairs are provided. Bring a cushion and mat if you prefer to sit on the wood floor.

IMSB relies upon the generosity of participants to support our teachers and cover organizational expenses. Dana is a word in the ancient Pali language that describes donations, offerings and generosity. Two bowls will be available at an event to practice dana for the teacher and IMSB; we encourage you to give joyfully and generously, according to your resources and means. IMSB is a 501(c) (3) organization. All donations are tax deductible as permitted by law.
